Library of Celsus
A two-storey Roman library built in the early 2nd century as a memorial and repository for thousands of scrolls. Its ornate marble façade and surviving interior are among the best-preserved features of the ancient city of Ephesus, and the site also contains the tomb of Celsus beneath the floor.

Highlights
- You will approach a tall, richly decorated façade framed by columns and niches.
- Look for surviving statues, carved details and inscriptions, and the voided space where shelves once held scrolls.
- Parts of the building have been restored, while others remain as weathered ruins, so expect a mix of crisp architectural features and rough stone.
- Paths are uneven in places and there are limited shelter options, so bring sun protection in summer and sturdy shoes.
